Understanding KSBs

KSBs are the 3 things you’ll develop during an apprenticeship:

• knowledge is what you learn about the job
• skills are what you actually do
• behaviours are how you act at work, like working well with others

The point of KSBs is to help you become competent in your job and develop skills and confidence as an employee.

For your apprenticeship assessment, you’ll need to prove that you have gained the KSBs specific to your apprenticeship.

You should speak with your training provider if you’re unclear about your KSBs.

Prove what you’ve learnt with KSBs

A key part of proving you’ve gained KSBs is showing how you’ve applied them to your job with real examples of your work.

Proof you’ve gained KSBs might include:

• reflections on training
• feedback from your employer
• projects you’ve done at work
• assignments you’ve completed

You should start gathering evidence straight away, and record your work as you go along, to make it easier to prepare for your assessment.

How you provide evidence will depend on your training provider. They’ll probably give you a learning journal or portfolio, or you can use Your Apprenticeship app. You should speak with your provider if you’re unclear about how to gather evidence.
