What comes after my apprenticeship?

What happens when you complete your apprenticeship?

When you have passed your apprenticeship assessment, you will have completed your apprenticeship. You’ll receive a certificate to confirm this.

If you complete a degree apprenticeship, you may also be awarded a formal qualification – for example, a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

What to do next

After completing an apprenticeship, many apprentices get a permanent job, usually with their existing employer. You could also progress to a higher role, or apply your skills in a different career.
Next steps:

• discuss internal vacancies with your current employer, as many retain apprentices in full-time roles
• apply for roles in your field, using your experience as a qualified professional
• progress to the next apprenticeship level (for example, level 3) or look for other types of learning
• update your CV and professional profiles (like LinkedIn) with your new skills and qualification
• join the Apprenticeship Ambassador Network to meet apprentices and employers in your region, gain contacts, or get a mentor.

Get support after your apprenticeship

You should talk to your employer about the career progression they can offer you after you have completed your apprenticeship.

You can visit the National Careers Service website for more advice.

You can also view Skills England's occupational maps. They show:

• how occupations at different levels link together
• options to progress into occupations with similar knowledge and skills needs
• career planning information, such as likely salaries.
